Our
Mission
To support and aid the education, outreach, and research efforts that are essential to the conservation of Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary, one of 18 treasured special ocean places in the USA.
Future Galveston Ocean Discovery Center
By collaborating with local artists and the Galveston Community, we are working to establish an Ocean Discovery Center in downtown Galveston - a place where the wonders of the Gulf, particularly our magnificent Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary, can come alive for everyone by bringing the ocean to the shore through immersive art. By making this center available to the public at no cost, we ensure that every person and child, regardless of income, has the opportunity to experience the magic of the ocean.

Try Scuba
In 2026, we will be hosting more "Try Scuba" events, which are special events specifically designed to introduce local students to scuba diving in a safe, shallow water environment, where they could learn the basics of underwater exploration. Students will participate in a hands-on simulation of scientific diving, using underwater tools to collect "samples" and working collaboratively to identify species at the surface. By focusing on local school groups, we are strengthen ties within the Galveston community and cultivating a new generation of ocean stewards.

Adopt-a-Buoy
Mooring buoys are essential for public access to the marine sanctuary for fishers and divers, as well as to protect the natural reef from damage caused by boat anchors. In 2026, we will be launching our Adopt-a-Buoy (mooring buoy) program where individuals or groups can help protect natural reefs from anchor damage by making donations to help fund the ongoing maintenance of the mooring buoys. Stay tuned for more information!
